Who are these qualifications for?
These Level 5 qualifications in Management and Leadership are designed for practising middle managers who wish to develop their core management skills and practices. These qualifications focus on the personal development of the individual learner’s management capabilities and competencies
These qualifications are derived from the National Occupational Standards for Management and Leadership and are accredited on the UK national qualifications framework.
What are the entry requirements?
These qualifications can be offered to Learners from age 19. CMI does not specify entry requirements for these qualifications, but ATDP will ensure that Learners admitted to the programme have sufficient capability at the right level to undertake the learning and assessment.
Flexible qualification structure:
These Level 5 qualifications in Management and Leadership offer a highly flexible approach to learning. They allow the freedom and choice to select from the broad range of units available, allowing employers and individuals to tailor the size and elements of the qualifications to suit their specific needs.
CMI Level 5 – Award in Management & Leadership
The Level 5 Award in Management & leadership is a concise qualification, which enables you to strengthen and develop your middle management knowledge through focusing on specific management areas that are appropriate to your personal and organisational development.
To achieve the Chartered Management Institute Award in Management & Leadership, you need to complete at least one unit with a minimum value of 6 credits.
CMI Level 5 – Certificate in Management & Leadership
The Level 5 Certificate in Management & Leadership is a more extensive qualification, which enables you to focus on broadening your middle management knowledge and skills whilst still maintaining the flexibility to focus on the specific management areas appropriate to both you and your workplace.
To achieve the Chartered Management Institute Certificate in Management & Leadership, you need to complete any combination of units to achieve a minimum of 13 credits.
CMI Level 5 - Diploma in Management & Leadership
This qualification is for the development of the role and skills of managers. The qualification aims to develop personal management capabilities, make effective use of information in decision-making, operations and the development of the skills in managing people.
To achieve the Charterered Management Institute Diploma in Management and Leadership, you will need to complete between 5 or 6 units to achieve a minimum of 38 credits.
Progression: Learners can add additional breath to this qualification by undertaking 3 or 4 additional units and attain the Extended Diploma shown below.
CMI Level 5 – Extended Diploma in Management & Leadership
The Level 5 Extended Diploma in Management & Leadership is a comprehensive qualification, providing you with the key management skills to enable you to operate effectively as a middle manager. This qualification allows you to develop a range of competencies from operational management principles and practices to the development of resource control and use. The Extended Diploma in Management & Leadership is recognised by the Chartered Management Institute as the benchmark qualification for full membership of the Institute and enables you to progress towards Chartered Manager status.
To achieve the CMI Level5 Extended Diploma in Management & Leadership, you need to complete Units 5001V1, 5002V1, 5004V1, 5005V1 and 5006V1 plus either 5003V1 or 5012V1 plus at least three other units to achieve a minimum of 62 credits.
How are these qualifications assessed?
Assessment is normally via practical work-based assignments proved by your Approved Centre. This ensures you minimise time away from work and that you undertake work study which is relevant to your own organisation’ s context.
How long will it take?
The time taken to complete the qualification will depend upon the units chosen and the delivery times and methods adopted.
However as a guide:
The Award can take as little as 4 - 8 weeks
The Certificate can take between 2 -3 months
The Diploma can take between 6 to 10 months
The Extended Diploma can take between 9 to 16 months

You will learn how to develop a budget and use financial information as a control to income and expenditure.
Conducting a Market Plan (Unit code 5008V1 – Credit value 9)
You will learn how to devise and implement a marketing plan taking into account both the organisation’s current position and its targeted positioning.
Project Development and Control (Unit code 5009V1 – Credit value 6)
You will develop an understanding of project development and produce a Project Plan which wil identify risks and monitoring techniques to achieve specific targets.
Planning for Development (Unit code 5010V1 – Credit value 6)
You will learn how to plan to meet the HR requirements of the organisation and how to identify individual training needs to meet current and future objectives.

I have been in my new role since July now. My team has responded well to my situational managerial approach. I have found a renewed enthusiasm for people management. I went into this slightly anxious, not having been in education for a while, and he took me under his wing with ease and guided me. The quality of material that is provided is exceptional, with multiple slide shows and downloadable content too. I am very pleased with what I have accomplished and I do look forward to working with John again.
I was a bit nervous at first and wasn't sure if I had bitten off more than I can chew, due to the fact of leaving school many years ago.
